Policy
Terms of use
Plain terms for a free service.
The service
CitationCheck.org compares submitted citations with records available from public scholarly metadata providers and reports what matched, what differed, and what could not be determined. The service is provided free of charge, as is, without warranties of any kind.
No guarantee of accuracy
Results depend on provider coverage, provider availability, parsing quality, and the citation itself. CitationCheck does not guarantee that every fabricated citation is detected, that every real citation is found, or that any classification is correct. Results are evidence to support human review — not a determination of academic truth, quality, or integrity.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to harass or make accusations against individuals, to overwhelm the service or its data providers with automated traffic, or to circumvent rate limits. The service enforces per-client limits so it stays available for everyone.
Your submissions
You are responsible for what you paste. Submit only text you have the right to share. Handling of submitted content is described on the privacy page.
Third-party data
Matched records come from third-party providers and remain subject to those providers' terms. CitationCheck does not claim ownership of provider data and does not represent any provider.
Changes and availability
The service, its limits, and these terms may change, and availability is not guaranteed. Material changes to these terms will be reflected on this page.
